Oral Historian, Dr. Alvin D. Jackson, will conduct a tour of the Old Mt. Pisgah Primitive Baptist Church (since 1883) Cemetery on February 16, 2019. He will discuss the lives of enslaved and free people who rest in those graves. The names of all 33 known former slaves will be called. Participants will meet at the Historic Willow Hill School, 4235 Willow Hill Road (Portal, GA), at 8 AM and travel to the cemetery for an hour long tour. This event is the first of a series of monthly cemetery tours of the 33 known African American Cemeteries of Bulloch County, Georgia. The tours will take place the third Saturday of each month. This event is sponsored by the Willow Hill Heritage and Renaissance Center and is free and open to the public. This event honors the Commemoration of 400 Years of African-American History (1619-2019).
